Otero County farmers and ranchers in are now eligible to be considered for low-interest emergency loans from the U.S. Department of
Agriculture's Farm Service Agency, according to a news release issued Thursday from Sen. Jeff Bingaman's office.
Six New Mexico counties were declared eligible for disaster assistance because of their proximity to Texas counties that were declared
disaster areas due to continuing drought.
"These loans help farmers and ranchers who have been affected by drought get back on their feet," Bingaman stated in the release.
In addition to Otero, Doña Ana, Eddy, Lea, Quay and Roosevelt counties are eligible.
